GORAKHPUR, Oct. 1 -- Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday recalled the role of former Gorakshpeethadhishwars Mahant Digvijaynath and Mahant Avaidyanath in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, saying the two seers dedicated their lives to the cause of the Ram temple in Ayodhya while working for social unity, national welfare and Sanatan values.
Speaking at a memorial gathering marking the 12th death anniversary of Mahant Avaidyanath and the 57th death anniversary of Mahant Digvijaynath, the chief minister said Digvijaynath was present when Ram Lalla's idol was placed at the disputed site in Ayodhya in 1949, while Avaidyanath led the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mukti Yagya Samiti for the liberation of Lord Ram's birthplace.
He said the ability to adapt to the needs of the time, society and nation was a defining quality of great personalities.

Avaidyanath's life mission represented an extension of the ideals and values of his guru, Digvijaynath. While Digvijaynath advocated strengthening Hindu society, Avaidyanath worked continuously to unite it, he said.
The chief minister also highlighted Avaidyanath's contribution to education. He said scholarships were promoted to encourage students in sports and education, while hostels such as Pratap Ashram were established to provide better accommodation for students.
