Dignity of constitutional offices must be upheld, says Mayawati
LUCKNOW, March 9 -- Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president Mayawati on Sunday stressed that constitutional offices must be respected in accordance with the ideals and dignity of the Indian Constitution, and warned against politicising such positions.
In a post on social media platform X, the four-time former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said everyone must honour the office of the President and adhere to its protocol, adding that turning the post into a political issue in any form was not appropriate.
Referring to recent developments during President Droupadi Murmu's visit to West Bengal, the BSP leader said the incident was "extremely unfortunate".
She also noted that the current President is not only a woman but also belongs to the tribal community, and therefore the dignity of the office must be carefully upheld.
Mayawati further criticised what she described as the increasing politicisation of the office of the Lok Sabha speaker, saying constitutional positions should remain above partisan politics and be treated with respect by all political parties.
She also expressed hope that the Parliament session resuming Monday would function smoothly in the interest of the country and the public, stating that people expect constructive proceedings in both Houses....
