LUCKNOW, Sept. 8 -- The next time a Dial 112 police response vehicle rolls into a village or a remote locality, it may have more than an emergency message to deliver. Starting Monday, Lucknow's police response vehicles (PRVs) have been pressed into service to tell people where and how they can get their pending disputes settled without years of litigation. In an unusual collaboration between the police and judiciary, PRVs were flagged off from the Lucknow district court premises on Monday as part of a campaign to take the message of the September 12 National Lok Adalat and Mediation 3.0 to the city's outskirts, villages and remote areas. District Judge and DLSA chairman Malkhan Singh and Lucknow police's National Lok Adalat nodal officer Kiran Yadav flagged off the PRVs. "The initiative by the Lucknow police commissionerate and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) seeks to turn the police's extensive field network into a legal-awareness channel, particularly for people who may not otherwise have easy access to information about alternative dispute resolution," said Yadav.
