Dhami set to be longest serving CM of U'khand
Dehradun, July 1 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is set to become Uttarakhand's longest-serving chief minister on July 4, surpassing the record held by former chief minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari, who remained in office for five years and five days.
According to officials, Dhami will complete the five-year-and-five-day mark on July 4. He first took oath as chief minister on July 4, 2021, and continued in office after leading the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to victory in the 2022 Uttarakhand assembly elections.
His uninterrupted tenure across two consecutive governments will take his total period in office beyond Tiwari's record.
Tiwari served as Uttarakhand chief minister for 1,831 days, from March 2, 2002, to March 7, 2007 - the longest tenure by any chief minister in the state's history. To mark the occasion, the state government will organise programmes across Uttarakhand under the banner of 'Seva Saptah', while the BJP has also planned celebrations across the state.
The milestone will coincide with the launch of the second phase of the 'Jan Jan Ki Sarkar - Jan Jan Ke Dwar' public outreach programme, aimed at taking government services and grievance redressal mechanisms directly to the people.
