LUCKNOW, April 9 -- Uttar Pradesh director general of police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna on Wednesday ordered disciplinary action against five station house officers (SHOs) and a preliminary inquiry against two traffic circle officers (COs) after a statewide review found a rise in road accidents in their jurisdictions. The directions were issued during a high-level online crime review meeting chaired by the DGP with zonal ADGs, police commissioners, range IGs/DIGs and district SSPs/SPs. Reviewing the Zero Fatality District (ZFD) scheme, Krishna said that although the month-long road safety drive launched on January 1 yielded positive results across 487 accident-prone police stations in seven commissionerates and 68 districts, 46 police stations reported an increase in accidents. Of these, five police stations showed a significant rise, prompting the DGP to order that the SHOs of Cholapur (Varanasi), Campierganj (Gorakhpur), Chhibramau (Kannauj), Ramsanehighat (Barabanki) and Sikarara (Jaunpur) be sent to lines. He also ordered a preliminary inquiry against the traffic COs posted in Barabanki and Jaunpur. The meeting also reviewed preparations for upcoming festivals and public events, with the DGP directing district police chiefs to ensure advance coordination with organisers and adequate security arrangements. Krishna stressed time-bound disposal of complaints through IGRS, asking district heads to personally monitor sensitive grievances and ensure transparent redressal. He also directed officers to provide prompt and factual updates to print, electronic and social media, and reviewed the C-RTC traffic decongestion scheme being implemented in 20 districts. Emphasising technology-led policing, the DGP ordered effective use of the e-evidence system and the 'Yaksh' app for beat intelligence and swift field action. He further instructed all district units to ensure timely completion of investigations and filing of charge sheets within the prescribed 60- and 90-day limits, while also ordering regular audits of court security arrangements. The DGP also directed officers to strengthen proactive policing and public grievance redressal while ensuring robust law and order across the state....
