Devotion grips city on fourth Bada Mangal
LUCKNOW, May 27 -- Devotion gripped the city on Tuesday as thousands of devotees thronged Hanuman temples across Lucknow to celebrate the fourth Bada Mangal with religious fervour and community feasts (bhandaras).
The sound of temple bells and conch shells could be heard from as early as 4 am while long queues of devotees were seen outside major temples.
Heavy crowds were witnessed at Aliganj Hanuman temple, Purana Hanuman temple, Hanuman Setu, Hanumant Dham, Gulachin temple, Lete Hanuman temple and Dakshin Mukhi Hanuman temple. Devotees offered prayers, applied tilak to one another and distributed prasad after darshan.
Special arrangements were made for devotees at Hanuman Setu temple. Large coolers and mist fans were installed to provide relief from the heat.
Outside temples and across neighbourhoods, devotees lined up at bhandaras where food and refreshments were distributed throughout the day. According to civic officials, more than 1,000 bhandaras were organised across the city. The LMC said 354 people officially registered to organise bhandaras.
In Ashiana, a bhandara was organised near Chancellors' Club under the aegis of the Ashiana Residents' Association and residents of ARA K-1 colony. Association president RK Pandey said a large number of residents and visitors took part in the community feast.
Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh also visited the event, took prasad and extended financial support to the organisers. Another bhandara was also organised at Sahara Bazaar, in Vibhuti Khand by Nitin Shukla and Jai Prakash Singh.
Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also participated in the celebrations. He distributed prasad at a bhandara organised by minister of state (independent charge) Ravindra Jaiswal near the Dakshin Mukhi Hanuman temple in Hazratganj.
Another bhandara was also organised by youths from Gudamba and Bharat Nagar areas at Dubey Ji Chauraha in Jankipuram. The community feast began around 1 pm and continued until nearly 8 pm. Volunteers distributed food among the devotees.
Devotees said the occasion reflected faith as well as social harmony. Jitendra Kumar, who offered prayers at Dakshin Mukhi Hanuman temple, said the experience filled him with joy....
