LUCKNOW, June 17 -- Long queues of devotees formed at Hanuman temples across the city before sunrise on Tuesday as Lucknow observed the seventh Bada Mangal. From major shrines to neighbourhood temples, chants of "Jai Bajrang Bali," devotional songs and community feasts created a festive atmosphere. At the Mahavir Hanuman Temple in Aliganj, devotees began arriving in the early hours of the morning, prompting authorities to deploy police personnel, including officers in plain clothes, to manage the crowds and ensure security. At the historic Hanuman temple in the city, a 70-year-old sadhu undertook an 18-hour uninterrupted kirtan. Seated with a harmonium from 5 am, he was expected to continue singing hymns until 11 pm. Faith and personal stories remained at the heart of the celebrations. Pratibha, a devotee who travelled from Kursi Road to the temple, said she had been visiting on Bada Mangal for the past 25 years. Recalling her experience, she said she had no children and organised a community feast during Bada Mangal in 2007. She believes she was blessed with a son afterwards and has continued to host a bhandara every year since.
