Deoria teacher suicide: BSA suspended; efforts on to arrest her
GORAKHPUR, Feb. 28 -- Days after a government school teacher in Deoria allegedly died by suicide alleging harassment and a demand for a hefty bribe to clear his arrears, the state government on Friday suspended Shalini Srivastava, BSA, Deoria, for negligence, lack of seriousness towards official duties and failure to discharge administrative responsibilities.
During the suspension period, Srivastava will remain attached to the office of the director of education (basic), Uttar Pradesh, in Lucknow.
The basic education department has also initiated a departmental inquiry against her. The joint director of education, Gorakhpur division, has been appointed the inquiry officer. The assistant teacher, who died by suicide on February 21, reportedly left behind a suicide note and a video message accusing officials of mental harassment and financial pressure related to departmental matters. Later, police registered a case based on a complaint filed by the teacher's family and launched an investigation into allegations of abetment to suicide.
SP (city) Abhinav Tyagi said two police teams conducted raids at the suspended BSA's suspected hideouts in Ballia and Varanasi in an effort to arrest her....
