Gorakhpur, June 9 -- Rural healthcare services in Deoria were disrupted on Monday after 16 medical officers serving as in-charges of CHCs and PHCs submitted collective resignations, citing mental harassment and severe staff shortages. They said they would continue treating patients. Officials said the district has 103 doctors against 215 sanctioned posts, forcing doctors to handle emergency, OPD, IPD, post-mortem and programme duties. Medicine distribution was affected, with many patients buying medicines privately. The resignation comes amid recent administrative reshuffles within the district health department, including the transfer of several medical officers serving as in-charges.
