Deoria bids farewell to four killed in Purvanchal Expressway accident
GORAKHPUR, Oct. 6 -- Four funeral pyres were lit together at Balthani riverfront Baikunth Dham in Deoria on Monday afternoon as grieving relatives, friends, officials and political leaders bid farewell to four family members, including the son and brother of an Army man, killed when an ambulance carrying the soldier's body rammed into a stationary truck on the Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur on Sunday.
The victims were Army Subedar Satyawan Singh, his son Gaurav Singh, brother Ram Samajh Singh and ward member Rajan Chaudhary.
The four bodies were brought to Deoria early Monday and handed over to the families after post-mortem formalities. The deaths sparked widespread grief across the district, with residents and public representatives condoling the loss.
Agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi and MLC Ratan Pal Singh visited the bereaved family, offered condolences and assured them of all possible government assistance.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had earlier expressed grief over the deaths, directed officials to provide all possible assistance and announced an ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakh each for the victims' families.
Following the chief minister's instructions, district magistrate Madhusudan Hugli and SP Abhijeet R Shankar, along with other officials, met the bereaved family and expressed solidarity with them....
