Demolition proceedings against Shamli banquet hall begins over alleged beef serving
Meerut, June 25 -- Authorities in Shamli district have initiated demolition proceedings against a banquet hall in Kairana where beef was allegedly served during a wedding reception earlier this month, officials said on Wednesday.
The action has been taken against the Mughal Banquet Hall, which authorities claim was constructed without the necessary approvals. According to officials of the Shamli Development Authority, the establishment has been sealed and steps are underway to demolish the structure.
Jagdev Singh, executive engineer with the development authority, said a notice had been served to the banquet hall owner seeking an explanation as to why the 'unauthorised' construction should not be demolished.
However, the owner failed to respond within the stipulated period.
"After no reply was submitted to the notice, further proceedings were initiated against the banquet hall," Singh said.
The controversy stems from a wedding reception held at the venue on June 18. Police launched an investigation after receiving information that beef was allegedly being served to guests during the event.
As part of the probe, police arrested four individuals, including the groom, identified as Farman; his uncle Salman; banquet hall owner Anees Ahmad; and cook Khalil. Authorities have also seized a car that was allegedly gifted to the groom and was purportedly used to transport the meat.
Investigators have alleged that the meat served at the reception was procured after the slaughter of a stray cow. The matter remains under investigation, and officials said legal action is being pursued under relevant provisions of law....
