Demolition of 45 structures begins
VARANASI, May 10 -- Demolition of 45 buildings acquired for the Dalmandi road widening project began on Saturday amid heavy security deployment. Several workers and demolition machines, including JCBs, were engaged in carrying out the operation.
According to officials, the demolition drive began in the afternoon to raze 45 buildings, including 20 that had been declared dilapidated by the Varanasi Nagar Nigam. Officials said all necessary notices related to the demolition process had already been served to the respective building owners.
A total of 181 buildings, including the 45 currently being demolished, have been identified for the Dalmandi road widening project. Of these, 61 buildings have so far been purchased and their registration process completed.
KK Singh, executive engineer of the public works department, confirmed the development.
Assistant commissioner of police, Dashashwamedh, Atul Anjan Tripathi said, "Tight security arrangements are in place for the drive. Surveillance is being carried out using drones, and barricades have been erected to regulate traffic flow and ensure security."...
