LUCKNOW, Sept. 16 -- As many as 103 passengers had a close shave after an IndiGo flight operating from Agartala to Delhi was diverted to Lucknow on Tuesday evening after the aircraft's warning system indicated smoke in its cargo area, triggering an emergency response at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport after Mayday call (an international voice-radio distress signal used during life-threatening emergencies) by pilot. Flight 6E6504 was diverted to Lucknow as a precautionary measure. The development prompted the airport authorities to immediately activate their emergency response protocols and put all critical safety and rescue resources on standby. The aircraft, carrying 103 passengers and six crew members, landed safely at Lucknow airport at 6:29 pm, according to the airport authorities. There was no reported untoward incident. Following the diversion, the airport mobilised its full fire and rescue response, along with ambulances and medical teams. Security personnel and terminal support staff were also deployed to facilitate the safe arrival of the aircraft and ensure that passengers and crew could be handled without disruption.
