Lucknow, Sept. 9 -- The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday suspended five tehsildars and issued notices to 13 others on charges of negligence in timely disposal of revenue cases. A revenue department official said the action has been taken on the instructions of chief minister Yogi Adityanath. On Monday, a thorough tehsil-wise and officer-wise review of cases filed under Section 34 (transfer of land) of the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code, 2006, in all revenue courts across the state was conducted by the Revenue Board. The action was initiated in view of the failure of the tehsildars to achieve the expected progress in the timely disposal of cases pending in revenue courts, he said. The suspended officers include Amit Yadav, tehsildar Sandila, Hardoi, Krishna Kumar Mishra, tehsildar Deoria, Saurabh Kumar, tehsildar Jaunpur, Ranjan Verma, the then Naib Tehsildar Ayodhya and currently tehsildar Ghazipur and Alakh Shukla, tehsildar Pratapgarh. Earlier on September 1 four tehsildars and one Naib Tehsildar were suspended. In addition, show-cause notices have been issued against 13 tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars for negligence in the disposal of cases. In a high level meeting held on August 29, the chief minister directed officers to ensure timely disposal of pending cases in the revenue courts. He also directed that the disposal of revenue cases should be within the stipulated timeframe in all circumstances. Strict action should be taken against negligent and indifferent officers according to the rules, he said. The Revenue Board also clarified that this action is not a one-time exercise but part of a continuous and ongoing process.
