Dehydration, fatigue & gastro issues rise
lucknow, April 24 -- A growing number of patients across Lucknow are reporting to government hospitals with symptoms linked to prolonged exposure to heat, as daytime temperatures continue to hover above 40degC.
Doctors across hospitals emphasised that prolonged exposure to heat significantly increases health risks.
They advised people to avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, maintain adequate fluid intake and seek timely medical attention if symptoms persist.
At King George's Medical University (KGMU), multiple patients sought treatment for dehydration, weakness and heat-induced stress. Doctors said many cases were directly linked to extended outdoor activity without adequate hydration.
Faraz, who reached the hospital on Thursday, was severely dehydrated and advised admission. Another patient, Nazim, reported continuous outdoor work over several days, leading to extreme fatigue and weakness.
Similar symptoms were observed in other patients, including Bhupendra and Arnav, who complained of persistent weakness and low energy levels after prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
At Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), patients with vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness and general weakness are increasing, conditions, doctors said, commonly associated with heat stress and fluid loss.
Dr Bhuwan Chandra Tiwari, media spokesperson, RMLIMS, said that patients suffering from loose motions and vomiting are arriving.
Meanwhile, at the Syama Prasad Mukherjee (Civil) Hospital, several patients were found with acute gastrointestinal issues, including repeated vomiting and loose motions since the previous night.
