Lucknow, Aug. 23 -- A special MP-MLA court on Saturday ordered issuance of an arrest warrant against former Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu for remaining absent during hearing of his appeal against conviction in a defamation case. Special judge Umakant Jindal issued the order and fixed September 10 as the next date of hearing. According to the case, former UP energy minister Shrikant Sharma had filed a complaint on December 16, 2019, alleging defamation by Lallu. Sharma alleged that Lallu had made false, malicious and misleading statements before the print and electronic media on November 4, 2019. It was further alleged that on November 5, Lallu again stated that the purpose for which the energy minister went to Dubai in September-October 2017 and whom he met there should be investigated. After hearing the complaint, the then Special ACJM, MP-MLA Court, Ambarish Kumar Srivastava convicted Lallu and sentenced him to one-year simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. The Uttar Pradesh Congress on Saturday organised a march in Lucknow against the alleged use of pellet guns on protesters in New Delhi and demanded the resignation of Union home minister. Several Congress workers were detained by police. The march, led by All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of UP Rajendra Pal Gautam, began from Parivartan Chowk and was scheduled to reach Jan Bhavan.
