Declared dead, man found driving scooter in Agra, jailed
Agra, Aug. 26 -- An accused declared dead in a 1999 forgery case was found riding a scooter on Agra roads earlier this year, nearly three decades after the case was filed. He surrendered before an Agra court but was denied bail and sent to jail on Monday.
Madan Gopal Verma, since deceased, had filed the case on April 21, 1999, before the additional chief judicial magistrate. The court summoned Vidya Devi, Chunni Lal Goyal, Tara Chand Sharma and Roshan Lal Verma for allegedly preparing a fake will. Three accused later died. Sharma, however, allegedly used the death certificate of another Tara Chand Sharma from Gandhi Nagar, who had died in 1998, to establish that he too was dead. The case was closed in 2017. Complainant's son Raj Kumar Verma spotted Sharma riding a scooter in February 2026. Following an application in March, the court issued a non-bailable warrant....
