LUCKNOW, Sept. 16 -- The pre-quarter-finals of the 3rd KL Garg AITA Men's Tournament on Tuesday delivered drama on both singles and doubles courts, with seeded players surviving scares and a few unseeded contenders announcing their arrival with commanding wins, at the SDS Tennis Academy here. In men's singles, the headline was resilience among the seeds. Top seed Jatin of Haryana dropped the opening set to compatriot Prashant before grinding out a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory in a match that swung on a handful of break points in the decider. Fifth seed Sunil also from Haryana showed similar grit, overturning an early deficit to beat Megh Bhargav of Gujarat 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 after finding his rhythm from the baseline. Seventh seed Aditya Kumar of Punjab produced the cleanest performance of the day, dispatching Aarav Chawla of Haryana 6-2, 6-4 with aggressive returns and crisp net play, whereas unseeded Udit of Assam was equally impressive, overwhelming Tamil Nadu's Pagalavan 6-1, 6-3 to book his place in the next round. Second seed Suraj of Karnataka edged past Akhil of Telangana 7-6 (3), 6-3, using his experience in the tie-break to seize control. West Bengal's Mayand Tewary and Ricky of Delhi both posted straight-sets wins 6-3, 6-3 over Sagar of Delhi and 6-2, 6-2 over Shiva of Haryana respectively-showing the form that has made them dangerous on the domestic circuit. Omesh and Emon were steady throughout, overcoming Vansh Yadav and Parth R 6-2, 7-5 with consistent depth and smart net positioning. Kanishk and Ricky produced the tightest contest of the round, edging Vansh Nandal and Aditya Kumar 7-6 (4), 7-5 in a match packed with long rallies and break-point drama. The Dewan Jagat Mohan Lal Memorial AITA National Series Boys' & Girls' Under-18 Tennis Tournament will be held at the Allahabad Gymkhana Tennis Academy, Azad Park, Prayagraj. This will be the first AITA National Series Boys' and Girls' Under-18 tournament to be held in Prayagraj, bringing together talented young players from across the country. The qualifying rounds will be held on October 17 and 18, followed by the main draw from October 19 to 24. The tournament is being organized by the Tennis Development Welfare Society. A large number of female cricketers took part in the trials for the inaugural Lucknow Women's Premier League here on Tuesday. All these players will be included in the auction on September 18. Female cricketers began gathering at the Sage Cricket Ground where selectors like Priyank Shaili, former cricketer Shweta Singh, Chitra Singh, and Komal Hora were present to evaluate the players' skills.
