Crisis before country is not limited to petroleum products: Mayawati
Lucknow, May 13 -- Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has said that the Prime Minister's appeals to the people to exercise 'restraint' in view of the West Asia crisis indicates that the crisis confronting India is not limited merely to petroleum products but to a deepening economic crisis. It is likely to affect the lives of millions of Indians, raising serious apprehensions about its persistence. In a post on X, on Tuesday, the BSP chief said, the war against Iran, coupled with the uncertainty surrounding its end-particularly in the light of concerns over the energy crisis and foreign exchange reserves-has been underscored by the Prime Minister.
Nearly one hundred crore people of the country-already reeling from the blow of the Covid pandemic and now grappling with crises even for their daily bread and livelihood-have little left to lose and can scarcely afford further restraint.
It would be fitting in the interest of the people and the nation for the central and state governments to take proactive steps in such a situation to provide some relief to the poor and toiling families and support them. This is the prevailing sentiment among the common people, she said....
