Criminal from Prayagraj injured, nabbed in Pratapgarh encounter
PRAYAGRAJ, May 13 -- A wanted criminal from Soraon area of Prayagraj was injured and nabbed in a police encounter in the Sangipur area of Pratapgarh district late Monday night. The incident took place near Amava village during a routine vehicle checking operation, police said.
According to police officials, the encounter took place around 9.30 pm when the SHO of Sangipur police station Gaurav Trivedi was conducting checks in the area. A motorcyclist approaching the checkpoint was asked to stop, but he allegedly opened fire at the police team. In retaliatory firing, the accused suffered a bullet injury to his leg.
The injured was identified as Ramadhar Tiwari, a resident of Soraon in Prayagraj. He was immediately taken into custody after being injured and admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Sangipur, for treatment. Police recovered a country-made firearm from his possession and also seized his motorcycle.
Senior police officials, including CO (Lalganj) Ashutosh Mishra and additional superintendent of police (West) Vrindanand Rai, visited the CHC to take stock of the situation.
Police said that the accused is wanted in a theft case in Lilapur and has more than a dozen criminal cases registered against him in various police stations.
Further legal action is being taken, including the registration of a case for firing at police personnel during the encounter, officials said....
