CPI seeks SC-monitored probe into Ram temple row
Lucknow, June 29 -- The Communist Party of India (CPI) has demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the alleged Ram temple donation irregularities, sought timely conduct of panchayat elections before the assembly polls, and announced district-level protests against unemployment, inflation and the commercialisation of education and healthcare in UP. These issues figured in a series of resolutions adopted at the three-day UP State Council meeting that concluded in Lucknow on Sunday.
Addressing party leaders and delegates at the CPI state headquarters in Qaisarbagh, Dr Girish Sharma, the party's national secretary and Uttar Pradesh observer, asserted that governance must be conducted in accordance with the ideals and provisions of the Constitution.
The party also declared that Left parties would jointly hold statewide protests on July 13 against unemployment, inflation, alleged police excesses and what it termed attacks on democracy and the Constitution. The All India Youth Federation (AIYF) will organise a demonstration in Lucknow on July 18 over unemployment and examination paper leaks, while the All India Students' Federation (AISF) will celebrate its foundation day in Barabanki on August 12-13....
