LUCKNOW, Aug. 10 -- Lucknow commissioner of police (CP) Tarun Gauba has pulled up officers for the force's inadequate presence on city streets and directed senior officials to step up field supervision, saying that except for two to four people, the work is not satisfactory. During a recent Zoom meeting with joint CPs, DCPs and police station in-charges, Gauba expressed his displeasure over the lack of visible police presence at major intersections and directed officers to conduct an intensive checking drive from 4pm to 6pm, followed by mandatory foot patrols. "The commissioner questioned how public confidence in law and order could be maintained if police personnel were not visible at key crossings and roads," said a senior police officer wishing not to be named. Officials said Gauba also expressed concern over a rise in crime in some areas under the western zone. He made it clear that negligence in crime control would not be tolerated and that every station in-charge would be held responsible for maintaining law and order in their respective jurisdictions. Since taking charge as commissioner, Gauba has been conducting regular review meetings and inspections. During the latest meeting, he stressed that officers needed to spend more time in the field rather than limiting themselves to paperwork and files. The commissioner also directed senior officers to closely monitor the functioning of police stations and ensure that instructions issued during review meetings were implemented.
