Court jails 3 in Rs.12.21-cr fake silicosis scam
Bharatpur/Dausa, April 1 -- A court remanded two doctors and a radiographer to judicial custody on Tuesday for issuing fake silicosis certificates, causing the Rajasthan government a loss of Rs.12.21 crore.
Brijesh Kumar Meena, deputy superintendent of police, cyber cell, Dausa, said a principal medical officer at Dausa district hospital filed a complaint on January 29, 2024, against a scam involving fake silicosis certificates.
Police registered a case against around 22 people accused of issuing the forgeries and launched an investigation.
Dr Manoj Unchwal, Dr Devi Narayan Sharma and radiographer Manohar Lal Yadav were arrested on Monday and produced before the court on Tuesday, where the judge ordered judicial custody, Meena said.
"Due to making fake silicosis certificates, the state government got a loss of rs 12.21 crore," he added. Of the 22 accused, 12 doctors were cleared as they had never been posted in Dausa district, Meena said.
Silicosis patients typically approach tuberculosis hospitals or district hospitals for certification. An OTP is sent to the state silicosis centre in Jaipur using the mobile numbers of the radiographer and doctor. The patient first undergoes an X-ray; the certificate is then generated upon OTP verification....
