Court awards life term to husband for killing wife in 2020
VARRANASI, June 10 -- A court on Tuesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his wife at their home in the Lohta police station area in 2020.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs.70,000 on the convict.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Atul Chaudhary convicted Rajendra Prasad for the murder of his wife, Asha Devi, and sentenced him to life imprisonment, said Additional District Government Counsel (Crime) Rohit Maurya.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on December 28, 2020. In his complaint, Ramvilas stated that he and his brother Amar had gone to work that day.
When Amar returned home in the afternoon and asked about their mother, Asha Devi, their father, Rajendra, claimed that she had gone to a goldsmith's shop.
When Ramvilas returned in the evening and received the same response, he grew suspicious.
Their suspicion deepened when they saw Rajendra levelling the soil in the courtyard with a farsa (spade-like tool).
The brothers then dug up the area and discovered their mother's body buried there. Upon being confronted, Rajendra allegedly confessed to killing Asha Devi over a property dispute, the prosecution said.
Police arrested the accused three days after the incident and subsequently filed a chargesheet in the case.
Additional District Government Counsel (Crime) Rohit Maurya and advocate Sudhanshu Gupta represented the prosecution.
