Couple found murdered in Kannauj hospital quarters, daughter injured
Kanpur, Nov. 6 -- A couple were found murdered inside their government accommodation at an old primary health centre in Gursahaiganj, Kannauj, on Thursday morning, while their two-year-old daughter lay unconscious with serious injuries in the same room.
The child, who had injuries to her face and a fractured neck bone, was referred to Kanpur.
Shikha had been working as a dai at the PHC, assisting nursing staff during deliveries.
Her mother-in-law Kisuma Devi had earlier worked there privately in the same capacity but died several years ago, after which Shikha took over the work. The man worked as a travel agent.
The couple had two children. Their seven-year-old son Pratyansh was at his father's aunt's house when the incident took place.
Sanjeev Kumar, 35, and his wife Shikha 32, both originally from Farrukhabad, were found dead in their quarters on Railway road. Shikha's body was lying on a wooden platform, with a rope tightened around her neck, while Sanjeev was found on a charpoy with his head and forehead smashed in.
He had been struck with a heavy object and blood stains were visible on his clothes.
The couple's daughter, Vanya, was found unconscious in the room.
She was still breathing when police broke open the door and was immediately taken to hospital. Her condition was serious and she was referred to Kanpur.
SP Kannauj Vinod Kumar said the house had two entrances, with one door locked and the other bolted from inside.
This made the possibility of an outsider entering the house appear less likely, he said, although the condition in which the bodies were found pointed towards murder.
Police have not yet disclosed any suspect or established a motive....
