LUCKNOW, Sept. 12 -- A sub-inspector posted at Banthra police station has been suspended and a departmental inquiry ordered after allegations of assault surfaced during the police handling of a dispute between two groups in the area. The action was taken against sub-inspector Sachin Kumar Yadav following allegations that he and other police personnel assaulted a man and his family members during a visit to their house in Khasarwara village on Wednesday night. According to police, two groups had a dispute over a monetary transaction on September 9. A police team had initially reached the spot and attempted to pacify both sides. Both groups later approached the police with complaints against each other. The man, who had earlier approached Banthra police station with a complaint against the other group, alleged that a police team subsequently reached his house to inquire into the matter. He claimed that Yadav hit him on the head with the butt of his service pistol. He also alleged that his brother was beaten with sticks when he tried to intervene and that a woman in the family sustained injuries.
