Cop dies by suicide, leavesmessage alleging harassment
MEERUT, July 17 -- A 25-year-old police constable allegedly died by suicide in Bulandshahr district as he shot himself with his service rifle early on Thursday, police said. Before taking the extreme step, he recorded an audio message accusing his station house officer and two clerks of harassment over his request for medical leave.
Authorities concerned have ordered a departmental inquiry against those blamed in the audio message. The incident occurred at around 3 a.m. near Lakhaoti police outpost under Aurangabad police station area. Confirming the incident, SP (city) Abhishek Pratap said the audio recording was being examined.
Following the incident, Bulandshahr SP Dinesh Kumar Singh ordered SHO Rahul Chaudhary and the two clerks Ankit and Sudhir to be attached to the police lines pending investigation.
In the audio message, the constable claimed that he informed the two clerks, identified as Ankit and Sudhir about his stomach pain and sought leave, but they allegedly ignored his request. The constable further claimed in the audio message that when he approached SHO Rahul Chaudhary about his medical condition, the officer allegedly mistreated and verbally abused him and had him attached to the police lines.
His sister-in-law also alleged that he had been denied leave despite his illness and had complained of being harassed by his superiors. A probe is underway into the incident....
