Convoy-led welcome for accused leads to fresh arrests in Gorakhpur
GORAKHPUR, May 13 -- A convoy-led welcome rally outside District Jail Gorakhpur for an accused released on bail has led to fresh legal action. Police arrested eight alleged gang members for attempting to spread fear and disturb public order through viral social media content.
Police identified the main accused as Aman Yadav alias Makku Yadav, who was granted bail in an attempt-to-murder case registered at Cantonment Police Station on December 4, 2025. He had been in jail since December 2025.
According to police, soon after his release on May 6, supporters arrived outside the jail in a convoy of SUVs and garlanded him publicly. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the jail premises.
Videos of the celebrations, allegedly uploaded on social media on May 10 with provocative dialogues and visuals, went viral, prompting police to initiate an investigation.
SP City Nimish Dashrath Patil said the viral content was objectionable and allegedly aimed at threatening the complainant while disturbing communal and caste harmony....
