Dehradun, June 23 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday described seers and sages as torchbearers of Indian culture and national consciousness.
Addressing a seers' conference and participating in the Shrimad Bhagwat Katha Gyan Yagya at Hari Seva Ashram Haridwar, Dhami paid tributes to revered seers and lauded the ashram's contribution to social service. He said the Shrimad Bhagwat Katha was a medium connecting humanity to spiritual consciousness and moral values.
"The contribution of the seer community towards the preservation and promotion of Sanatan culture is unparalleled. Seers and sages have always played an important role in nation-building while providing direction to society," said Dhami.
He added that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the country was witnessing a cultural renaissance, citing the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Kashi Vishwanath Dham, Mahakal Lok, and the redevelopment of Kedarnath Dham as initiatives to strengthen spiritual heritage.
Dhami said the state government was continuously working towards establishing Uttarakhand as the spiritual capital of the world while protecting its cultural identity, referring to an anti-conversion law, the Uniform Civil Code and revised land laws. He added that a Centre for Hindu Studies was established at Doon University to facilitate research in Indian philosophy, culture and civilisation.
