Construction dispute leaves SP worker dead in Amethi; two held
LUCKNOW, June 19 -- A 65-year-old Samajwadi Party (SP) worker was allegedly beaten to death by neighbours following a dispute over a two-foot projection (chhajja) in a house under construction in Amethi district, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred late on Wednesday night in Dalshahpur Saidpur village under Sadar Kotwali police station limits. The deceased, Ramphali Pal, was an SP booth agent and farmer.
Amethi additional superintendent of police (ASP), Gyanendra Kumar Singh, said a dispute had been simmering between Pal and his neighbour, Krishna Kumar Singh alias Harivansh Singh, over the projection extending from Pal's under-construction house. The issue resurfaced on Wednesday when preparations were underway for laying the roof slab.
He said the family alleged that around midnight, Krishna Kumar Singh and several associates forcibly entered the house and attacked Pal and his family members with sticks, iron rods and other weapons. Pal, his wife Anara, son Sunil, daughter-in-law Kiran and other family members sustained injuries in the assault.
The injured were taken to the community health centre in Amethi. Pal was later referred to Rae Bareli for advanced treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the way, police said.
Based on a complaint lodged by Sunil Pal, police registered a case against Krishna Kumar Singh, Manju Singh, Sheetal Singh, Atul Singh, Shiromani Singh and others. The family has also alleged that casteist remarks were made during the attack.
Police said two accused, Manju Singh and Shiromani Singh, have been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Local political leaders, including representatives of Amethi MLA Maharaji Prajapati, visited the bereaved family and assured them of support....
