Constable injured as two groups of Kanwariyas clash in Meerut
MEERUT, Aug. 5 -- A police constable was injured when a group of Kanwariyas allegedly assaulted him as he tried to stop a clash between two groups of devotees participating in the Kanwar Yatra in Meerut early on Tuesday. Some Kanwariyas (Lord Shiva devotees) suffered minor injuries as videos of the clash have gone viral on social media.
According to police, the clash broke out around 3am outside a hotel in Daurala when Vikas Mishra of Delhi's Devki Colony was returning from Haridwar with fellow Kanwariyas when a motorcycle carrying Sonu Yadav and Guddu Singh, residents of Haibatpur village in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, collided with Mishra and other devotees. The collision triggered a heated argument that quickly escalated into a physical fight.
The constable, Dinesh Kumar, rushed to the spot. Police said Kanwariyas pushed and assaulted him. One of them allegedly hit Kumar on the head with a stick. An additional police force was rushed to the spot and it brought the situation under control....
