MEERUT, June 9 -- Five people, including a serving constable, have been arrested in connection with a robbery at the residence of a prominent industrialist in Hapur. The arrests followed a late-night police encounter on Sunday within the jurisdiction of Hapur Dehat police station, during which two of the accused sustained bullet injuries in an exchange of fire with the police. According to officials, the accused were allegedly involved in the June 1 robbery at the residence of noted industrialist Narendra Agarwal on Garh Road, where family members were reportedly held hostage at gunpoint while jewellery worth nearly Rs.2 crore and cash running into several lakh rupees were looted. Police then tightened the cordon and arrested the two injured suspects along with Guddu, Tinku, and constable Vicky Gautam. Officers recovered the looted jewellery, cash worth several lakh rupees, two motorcycles used in the crime, and illegal firearms from their possession. Investigators said Tinku, whose father Satpal had long worked for Narendra Agarwal's family, allegedly provided inside information that helped plan the robbery. He is also accused of involving his friend, Constable Vicky Gautam, in the crime. Superintendent of police Kunwar Gyananjay Singh said that Vicky Gautam, a native of Amroha and posted in Sitapur, had been absent from duty since 2024. He added that Gautam was previously arrested in 2025 in Moradabad's Dilari area with old currency notes worth about Rs.1.5 crore.
