LUCKNOW, May 2 -- Congress leaders on Friday accused the BJP of turning education and healthcare into commercial enterprises, stating the move is directly harming ordinary people across the state and the country. They said this while addressing a teachers' and doctors' conference held in the state capital on the occasion of Buddha Purnima and Labour Day. "Schools, colleges, and major educational institutions are being sold or privatised, while the poor condition of government hospitals is evident to all. At the same time, large private hospitals backed by capitalists are rapidly coming up," said Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai. "Children from poor families are unable to get admission to good schools, and they also struggle to access treatment at quality hospitals. The government's policies have completely failed," Rai said. Congress state in charge Avinash Pandey raised the issue of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), stating it had once served as a pillar of support for employees in their old age. He added that the party plans to reinstate the OPS for employees. Rai said the public would, in time, respond to what he described as the ongoing assault on democracy. Supriya Shrinate, chairperson of the All India Congress Committee's social media department, said that only teachers and doctors have the ability to transform the deteriorating system. Taking a swipe at the BJP government, she remarked, "We are expecting progress in education from those who cannot even present their own degrees. Those with fake degrees will inevitably make fake promises."
