Cong panel stopped from going to Gonda
LUCKNOW, Sept. 13 -- A Congress delegation going to meet the bereaved family of late Vinod Sahni, a utensil trader from Rexadiya, Karnalganj (Gonda district), who was shot and killed, was stopped by the police in Barabanki, a release issued by the party in Lucknow on Saturday read.
"Is visiting a victim's home to offer condolences a crime? The high-handedness of the BJP and the fear instilled by the UP Police has reached its peak. I was on my way to meet and offer condolences to the aggrieved family of the late Vinod Sahni.
"Acting like a puppet, the police illegally detained me at the Masauli police station in Barabanki district," said Ajai Rai in a statement.
"Why does the state government become so terrified when Congress leaders visit the homes of the poor, backward classes, Dalits, minorities, who are falling victim to the state's crumbling law and order and rising crime? The brutal shooting and murder of Vinod Sahni-a pottery trader from the Nishad community is deeply tragic. The manner in which Vinod Sahni was killed proves that the law and order has virtually ceased to exist in the state," said Rai.
Along with Rai, former MLA Akhilesh Pratap Singh, and other party workers going to Gonda, were also taken to police station....
