New Delhi, Oct. 18 -- Keen to ensure success of the Congress's new campaign against "mass disenfranchisement" through the SIR process, the party leadership has appointed more than 200 observers for districts, as the drive widens across the states. The list of 214 observers includes the party's former Lok Sabha floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, former general secretary Avinash Pande, ex-CM of Arunachal Pradesh Nabam Tuki and Maharashtra ex-CM Prithviraj Chavan. Others include senior MPs Rajiv Shukla, K Suresh and Akhilesh Prasad Singh. A press release issued by party general secretary in charge of organisation KC Venugopal said, "Hon'ble Congress president (Mallikarjun Kharge) has approved the proposal for the appointment of AICC observers to be deputed for a cluster of districts, to oversee the Vote Bachao Desh Bachao campaign, with immediate effect." "All observers have ground level experience in organising protests. They will report to the high command on the developments and will coordinate with the party units at the ground level," said a senior leader. htc...
