Cong MP, SP MLA spar over drain construction
Meerut, Aug. 20 -- Congress MP Imran Masood and Samajwadi Party MLA Ashu Malik, whose parties fought the Lok Sabha elections together as allies, were at loggerheads during a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meet in Saharanpur over queries related to drain construction and the accuracy of information provided by officials.
The confrontation took place during a review of development works held on Tuesday. A video of the exchange surfaced on Wednesday, showing the two leaders repeatedly responding to each other as other elected representatives and officials looked on. The argument began when officials were being questioned about drain construction as part of the review of development projects in the district.
The disagreement centred on how questions should be raised and answered during the DISHA meeting. Masood said officials would first respond to questions and members could then ask supplementary questions based on those answers. Malik questioned how the information could be accepted as correct without first verifying it.
