Haridwar, Oct. 5 -- The Congress on Sunday alleged corruption and lack of transparency in works being undertaken for the upcoming Ardh Kumbh fair in Haridwar, and demanded that the state government make details of all projects public. Addressing a media gathering at the Press Club in Haridwar, Congress national spokesperson Alok Sharma said only two months remained for the Ardh Kumbh and alleged that the slow pace of work was visible across the city. "There is no transparency in the allocation of Ardh Kumbh projects. The budget of more than Rs.700 crore for the Ardh Kumbh appears to be marred by corruption. Renovation, painting, filling potholes and repeating works carried out during the previous Kumbh seem to be the norm," Sharma said. He demanded that the BJP-led state government issue a "white paper" on the Ardh Kumbh and make public details of every project, including its budget, nodal agency and other related information. The BJP, however, rejected the Congress's allegations, describing the suspicion of a scam as baseless. "There is still some time left for the completion of the Ardh Kumbh works, so everyone, including the opposition, should have patience. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is regularly monitoring the Kumbh projects along with administrative officials," BJP state sub-media in-charge Vikas Tiwari said.
