Comic on life and works of Padma Shri Dr Lalji Singh launched
VARANASI, July 6 -- On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Padma Shri Dr Lalji Singh, the architect of modern forensic science in India and the father of DNA fingerprinting, his entire life story has been presented to the nation through a unique and popular medium: an illustrated comic.
Padma Shri Dr K Thangaraj presided over the grand launch of this 28-page illustrated comic titled The DNA Warrior: Dr. Lalji Singh A Life Unlocking India's Genetic Secrets.
While launching the comic, Padma Shri Dr K Thangaraj remarked that conveying Dr Lalji Singh's legacy to the new generation through this unique medium is a highly commendable step.
On the occasion, Prof Gyaneshwer Chaubey and Dr Chandana Basu explained that they felt the inspiration derived from science did not fully reach the masses when confined to traditional writings and speeches; hence, they chose a popular medium like comics.
For this ambitious project, they entrusted the responsibility of storyboarding and scriptwriting to Dr Vaishnavi Sridhar, a researcher at NCBS Bangalore.
Experienced illustrator Nandini Chilkam handled the artwork, while computer artist Abhishek Ramanujam used modern digital technology to make the illustrations even more vivid.
The comic will soon be released in Hindi as well as all major regional languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, and Punjabi....
