Clerics appeal to upload waqfdocuments on UMEED portal
LUCKNOW, June 5 -- With the deadline to register waqf properties on the Centre's Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) portal ending on Friday (June 5), clerics have appealed to caretakers to finish the uploading work to avoid any future problems.
Registration on the portal is mandatory under the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, which came into force on April 5. Though a section of stakeholders has expressed concern over the number of waqf establishments whose documents are yet to be submitted, clerics say this responsibility was solely with the caretakers and they got enough time to do so.
Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, chairperson, Islamic Centre of India, said: "We already got a six-month extension and the deadline ends on Friday. Time was sufficient to rectify and upload the documents. If anyone has not yet uploaded, I urge them to do so before the deadline ends."

If there is no caretaker, the Waqf Board will appoint one and ensure the job is done. In the past we organised camps to educate people on how to upload documents and have even provided legal help where required," said Mahali, also a member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board's executive committee.
Meanwhile, stakeholders, including retired bureaucrats and civil society members, held a meeting in Lucknow on Thursday.
They discussed providing legal aid to those unable to upload documents by the June 5 deadline. According to the latest data, documents of over 13,000 Waqf establishments in Uttar Pradesh are yet to be uploaded.
The UMEED portal was launched by the Union ministry of minority affairs in June 2025 under the Waqf (Amendment) Act to digitise, monitor, and bring transparency to the administration of waqf properties across India.
The Uttar Pradesh State Waqf Tribunal had earlier granted a six-month extension to mutawallis and waqf administrators for uploading details of waqf properties on the UMEED portal.
The tribunal passed the order on December 10, 2025, after the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board submitted an application citing persistent technical difficulties that had slowed the registration drive....
