Cleric hails HC directive
LUCKNOW, Sept. 12 -- Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahli, chairman of the Islamic Centre of India, on Friday welcomed the Allahabad high court's directive staying the realisation of Rs six crore fine from the management of a mosque in Saharanpur which was demolished on September 5. "We welcome the direction passed by the Hon'ble High Court in the matter concerning the demolition of the Saharanpur Masjid. The court has directed the state government to submit its response in the case and has also stayed the fine," he said.
"We see this as an important step towards justice and are hopeful that the Hon'ble High Court will protect the Masjid's rights and ensure justice in this matter. We are confident that the Saharanpur Masjid will be rebuilt at the earliest as places of worship are protected under the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, and the applicable legal provisions relating to Waqf," the cleric added.htc...
