PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 30 -- A 12-year-old Class 4 student was killed after being run over by a sand-laden tractor while he was cycling near Kali temple in Bhola Ka Purwa area of Dhoomanganj on Tuesday morning, police said. The accident triggered protests, with angry locals blocking the GT Road for nearly an hour and demanding the immediate arrest of the tractor driver and compensation for the boy's family. The deceased, Prince Bhartiya, son of mason Lallan Bhartiya of Bhola Ka Purwa, was cycling to the market at around 9.30 am when the tractor allegedly hit his bicycle from behind and ran over him. The driver abandoned the tractor and fled following the accident. Family members reached the spot soon after and locals, angered by the incident, blocked the road. On being informed, ACP (Dhoomanganj) Ravi Gupta and a police team reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters. However, the protesters insisted on the driver's immediate arrest. Police subsequently arrested the driver, following which the blockade was lifted. Dhoomanganj SHO Rajiv Kumar said the student's body was sent for postmortem examination and later handed over to his family.
