Lucknow, Sept. 28 -- Continuous rain for nearly 72 hours has left several government hospitals in Lucknow waterlogged, with flooding reported inside and around the premises of King George's Medical University (KGMU), Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Shyama Prasad Mukherjee (Civil) Hospital, Balrampur Hospital and Bhaurao Deoras Hospital. The flooding severely disrupted patient movement, especially for those attempting to reach emergency wards. At KGMU, water accumulated around the Lari cardiology, general surgery and paediatrics departments, as well as the road leading to the trauma centre, forcing cardiac patients to wade through inundated paths. Similarly, Civil Hospital reported knee-deep water near Gate No. 1 and the plastic surgery department, requiring staff to deploy drainage pumps. At Bhaurao Deoras Hospital, water breached the emergency ward, while RMLIMS staff reported water ingress in the basement and medical store areas. The inclement weather triggered a sharp decline in outpatient department (OPD) attendance. KGMU reported approximately 3,000 patients on Saturday, a 60% drop from its usual 8,000. Prof KK Singh noted that most visitors were those with urgent, pre-scheduled consultations. Balrampur Hospital saw a similar downturn, with footfall plummeting to 2,000-2,500 from the standard 5,000-6,000, according to director Dr BKS Chauhan. In response, the local health administration has mobilised teams across all eight city zones to distribute medicine and conduct awareness drives. Chief medical officer Dr NB Singh has directed all health centres to maintain high alert and ensure adequate drug stocks. Medical Mobile Units (MMUs) have been deployed in vulnerable areas like Faizullaganj.
