CITU rejects govt's wage notification
LUCKNOW, April 20 -- The Uttar Pradesh State Committee of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has rejected the minimum wage notification issued by the Uttar Pradesh government on April 17, terming it a betrayal and has demanded a minimum wage of at least Rs.26,000.
"CITU categorically rejects this notified minimum wage and calls upon the workers to reject it in its entirety as well. Furthermore, the organisation demands the immediate constitution of a 'State Minimum Wage Advisory Board' under Section 7, the formation of a committee under Section 5(1)(a), and the determination of a state-level minimum wage through a scientific methodology, in strict conformity with statutory provisions," the CITU representatives said in a press release.
The state government issued a minimum wage notification wherein the wages for unskilled workers in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad (category 1) have been fixed at Rs.13,690, for semi-skilled workers at Rs.15,059, and for highly skilled workers at Rs.16,868; for districts with municipal corporations (category 2), the rates have been fixed at Rs.13,006, Rs.14,306 and Rs.16,025 respectively; and for other areas falling outside categories 1 and 2, the rates have been fixed at Rs.12,356, Rs.13,590, and Rs.15,224, respectively-effective from April 1, 2026....
