Lucknow, July 16 -- Union minister Chirag Paswan on Wednesday launched the Lok Janshakti Party's (LJP) campaign for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections by demanding the Bharat Ratna for LJP founder Ram Vilas Paswan and Bahujan Samaj Party founder Kanshi Ram. Addressing a press conference after chairing the party's state executive committee meeting, Paswan said 14 resolutions were adopted. He said the LJP would strengthen its organisation and frontal wings across all 403 Assembly constituencies in the state. While reaffirming that the party remains an NDA ally, he said no decision had been taken on the number of seats it would contest. Paswan said the LJP would engage with the Dalit community to counter what he described as attempts by opposition parties to mislead voters. He claimed the party had successfully challenged the opposition's narrative on constitutional amendments and reservation during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Bihar. Responding to questions on the alleged assault on a Dalit girl in Meerut and BSP chief Mayawati's appeal against street protests, Paswan said the LJP was committed to social justice and would continue to raise issues affecting the Dalit community. He said pressure should be maintained on the government and administration to ensure action against those responsible, adding that he had spoken to chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Dalit issues.
