Chief secy orders border vigil, raids to stop illegal liquor flow this Holi
LUCKNOW, March 1 -- Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Shashi Prakash Goyal on Saturday ordered tough measures to stop illegal and spurious liquor from spoiling the Holi festivities, warning officials that no district should witness accidents linked to illicit alcohol.
Chairing a video conference with divisional commissioners, district magistrates and senior police officers, Goyal directed authorities to maintain heightened vigilance with special focus on sensitive districts.
He categorically instructed that the production and sale of illegal or spurious liquor must be completely stopped. Officials were asked to carry out surprise inspections at liquor shops, dhabas and other vulnerable locations to check illegal sales and overpricing. Surveillance along interstate borders was ordered to be stepped up, with intensive checking at border points and strict penal action against offenders.
Goyal also directed that authorised bhang shops must not sell cannabis under any circumstances....
