Chandrashekhar Azad launches Satta Parivartan Yatra
Meerut, June 6 -- Azad Samaj Party chief and Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad launched his party's Satta Parivartan Yatra from Meerut on Friday, using the occasion to mount a sharp attack on the Uttar Pradesh government over issues ranging from unemployment and paper leaks to law and order, women's rights and caste politics. Addressing the media before commencing the yatra, Azad asserted that political change in UP is inevitable in the 2027 assembly elections. He said the state's youth, its largest demographic group, had become the biggest victims of governance failures, citing recurring examination paper leaks and alleged irregularities in recruitment processes.
"The youth are suffering. Papers are being leaked and recruitment scams are rampant. Change in Uttar Pradesh is certain in 2027," he said.
Azad also accused political opponents of misleading women regarding reservation policies. He claimed that the provision for 33 per cent reservation for women had already been enacted in 2023 and could be implemented by the Centre at any time. The Azad Samaj Party, he said, advocates 50 per cent reservation for women instead of 33 per cent. In a controversial remark, Azad said that elections conducted through ballot papers rather than Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would pave the way for his party to form a government.
The Nagina MP strongly criticised the state's law-and-order situation, citing the case of national athlete Anushka Pal, whose body was recovered after 44 days. "If this can happen to a national player, one can imagine the condition of ordinary women. Is this the law and order the government talks about?" he asked.
He added that maintaining law and order was not merely about "tightening screws, firing bullets, or running bulldozers."
On speculation regarding political alliances ahead of the 2027 polls, Azad said his party's alliance would be with the people rather than with any political formation....
