Champat, Anil Mishra, Gopal Rao may have to go to jail: Vinay Katiyar
Ayodhya, July 4 -- Describing the alleged embezzlement of Ram temple donations as an attack on the country's religious culture and the faith of crores of devotees, Vinay Katiyar, a three-term former BJP MP from Faizabad and frontline leader of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, on Friday said Champat Rai, Gopal Rao and Anil Mishra may have to go to jail in the coming days.
Katiyar, who is also the Bajrang Dal founder, demanded that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust be reconstituted and "honest and capable people" be given responsibility in it.
He also claimed that he spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the donation controversy.
"I spoke to PM Modi on this matter. He asked what would happen next. I told him that everything would be fine," he said.
"It is possible that in the coming days, Champat Rai, Gopal Rao and Anil Mishra may have to go to jail," he added.
Stating that it is clear that money has been embezzled, he said, "Consider it a robbery in God's house. This incident has sent the wrong message across the country." He added that he was confident that appropriate action will be taken against the guilty.
Expressing satisfaction over the SIT investigation, he said the probe should move for- ward impartially, although he alleged that attempts are also being made to protect some people.
Questioning the Trust's functioning, he said its responsibility should be fixed.
Katiyar said he joined the Ram Janmabhoomi movement when it began in the early 80s, adding that if former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh and he had not made sacrifices, the temple could not have reached this stage.
