Haridwar, Aug. 3 -- A case has been registered against officials associated with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) over alleged negligence after two Kanwariyas were killed when iron girders collapsed on them beneath an under-construction flyover in Bahadrabad on Saturday evening, police said. The case was lodged on the complaint of the parents of the deceased, identified as Krishna Kumar, a resident of Shakurpur in Ghaziabad, and Tanuj, a resident of Jalalabad in Muradnagar, Meerut. According to police, the devotees had stopped to rest beneath the under-construction flyover in Bahadrabad, around 12 kilometres from Haridwar city, when a stack of iron girders on which they were sitting suddenly collapsed, burying them under the debris. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead. Bahadrabad police station in-charge Amarjeet Singh said: "A case has been registered against the concerned NHAI officials. Further investigation is being carried out to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident," Singh said.
