Candidates file nominations for Meerut-Saharanpur MLC polls
Meerut, Oct. 6 -- The nomination process for the Teacher and Graduate seats of the Meerut-Saharanpur division in the upcoming legislative council elections concluded on Monday, with candidates from the BJP, Samajwadi Party and the Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh (Thakurai faction) filing their papers.
BJP's Shrichand Sharma filed his nomination for the Teacher seat, while Dinesh Goyal submitted his papers for the Graduate seat.
The two candidates reached the commissioner's office in separate processions accompanied by party workers and supporters.
Before the nominations, BJP workers and supporters gathered at SGM Garden in Lal Kurti, where party leaders addressed them. The candidates later proceeded to the commissioner's office in a procession and filed their nomination papers.
The Samajwadi Party also filed nominations for both seats. Advocate Pramendra Singh Bhati is the party's candidate for the Graduate seat, while Nitin Tomar is contesting the Teacher seat.
The SP has fielded a Gurjar (Bhati) candidate for the Graduate seat and a Thakur candidate for the Teacher seat as part of its strategy to consolidate support among different social groups in the division. The party is seeking to strengthen its electoral position by reaching out to various communities.
Candidates backed by the Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh's Thakurai faction also filed their nominations on Monday. Sushil Chaudhary submitted his papers for the Teacher seat, while Dr Rahul Kushwaha filed his nomination for the Graduate seat.
Office-bearers of the teachers' association and a large number of teachers accompanied the two candidates during their nomination processions....
