Burglars decamp with valuables from locked house
LUCKNOW, May 18 -- Three masked men allegedly broke into a locked house in Badri Nagar under the Sarojininagar police station here early on Saturday and decamped with valuables worth several lakhs, said police on Sunday.
The incident was captured on CCTV, and the footage surfaced on Sunday, prompting police action.
ACP Krishna Nagar Rajneesh Verma said efforts were underway to identify the accused.
According to police, furniture businessman Ibrar Ahmad and his family had left their house locked on May 13 to attend a wedding at their ancestral village in Amethi district.
CCTV footage obtained from a neighbouring house shows the trio entering the premises late at night with their faces covered. Investigators said the accused remained inside the house for more than two hours, thoroughly searching rooms and cupboards.
The accused were later seen leaving the house around 3.30 am carrying stolen items. Police suspect the burglars had enough time to thoroughly scan the premises and selectively pick jewellery and other valuables before fleeing.
The theft came to light when a neighbour noticed the broken lock and informed Ibrar Ahmad, who immediately returned with his family from Amethi. Upon entering the house, the family found cupboards ransacked and belongings scattered across the rooms.
Ahmad told police that gold and silver necklaces, bangles, earrings, chains, rings, and other valuables were missing from the house.
Police have registered a case and further probe in under way....
